Meet Rowen Christian #SYFashion

As a mom of two, a boy and a girl I will say shopping can be a pleasure or a struggle depending on who I am shopping for. Girls designer styles are by the dozen, no matter the look you are interested in creating you can easily find it. However shopping for my son has become a struggle! I like for his look to be unique, we usually go with layered looks, torn denim, screen tees, leather, bowties, suspenders etc. Thankfully we discovered Rowen Christian and his look has become easier than years past.

Just as my boys fashion savvy sense began to dwindle, I stumbled upon Rowen Christian, a fashion forward denim brand for boys ages 2-7, months ago on instagram. Jeana, Mom behind Rowen Christian was motivated by the frustration of the limited options available in stylish clothing for young boys and launched her new brand to dispel the notion that “it only matters how we dress our girls” and to provide fashion styles for boys that inspire self-esteem and confidence, critical to their future success.

After following and shopping Rowen Christian Couture, I was ever so lucky to meet the mom and dad duo behind the brand at a show in NYC. A sweeter couple I couldn’t have met! After chatting about their two adorable boys, life in Utah, and their amazing denim we scheduled an interview to share with you!

SYS: What was your motivation to create a stylish clothing line for young boys?

RCC: Having twin boys and double the shopping pleasure, brought us double the frustration in trying to find fashion-forward, premium quality jeans for them. We wanted men’s styled denim for our boys. And we couldn’t find it anywhere. So we decided, if no one else is going to do it, we will. Sometimes we’ve questioned whether that was pure insanity talking. 😉 Actually we love pursuing this vision, crazy or not.

We also created this line to change the common culture of thinking that “it only matters how we dress our girls”. We believe that boys should have as many fashion options as girls and that what they wear matters.

Rowen David & Brayden Christian are our twins and the genesis of the brand name. They just turned 5 last November. They are fun-loving, curious little guys who love planes, robots (Rowen has an awesome robot dance), clocks (yes, Brayden can tell you all of the inner workings of a grandfather clock as well as all its chimes) & every other boy toy on the planet; and they never miss an opportunity to stop in public and dance to music playing in the background or carry on a conversation with anyone who dares. 😉 They are the lights of our world.

SYS: What are your future plans of Rowen Christian Couture?

RCC: We intend to be in high fashion boutiques across the country and all over the world, continuing to leave our footprint & make a difference to children in need.

SYS: Do you have any intentions of expanding the line?

RCC: Yes we do! And I’m very excited about this. We will be releasing new jean designs, as well as a denim blazer later this year. We will also be expanding our sizes to include 6 months, 12 months & 18 months, along with our current sizing 2T-7. In the very near future, we will be releasing denim shorts for toddler & young boys.

SYS: What do you feel distinguishes your jeans for our little guys verse other options available in the retail market?

RCC: We use only high-end premium denim. All of our designs are fashion-forward “men’s-type” styles. We use exquisite stitching & leather detail, along with metal accessories, such as a coin logo affixed to the back pocket of our Straight jean, for example, that no other boys brand is using. We have unique, exclusive designs that are guaranteed to make little guys stand out in a crowd. There are truly no other jeans on the market for boys that have the same attention to detail as Rowen Christian denim. All of our jeans, for every size, have sewn-in adjustable waist bands to ensure the perfect fit. Each jean style is designed with added length to allow more room for growth and/or the stylish rolled up cuff look.

SYS: I read on your website that your company donates a portion of every sale to Roundup River Ranch and I think that is incredible! Can you tell me about the charity and why you made this generous decision to do so?

RCC: We believe strongly in the power of giving back, especially to children in need. We are very fortunate to have healthy children and never take that for granted. In launching this brand, we knew that we wanted to do more than just create a high quality denim line for boys, but to also be a part of shaping the best possible future for every child. That’s why we donate a portion of every sale to Roundup River Ranch – a proud member of SeriousFun Children’s Network founded by Paul Newman. Roundup River Ranch is a medically supported camp where children with chronic and life threatening illnesses can experience the joys of childhood for free. It’s such a wonderful place. We’ve had the pleasure of being there first-hand and seeing the amazing impact & extraordinary healing powers this organization has on children who are battling terminal illnesses. SYS: How do you find time to balance your work and home life?

RCC: Oh goodness, this one is a constant work in progress for me. I’ve certainly not mastered this, and I’m not sure that it’s even 100% possible. I strive daily to give my husband, my children and my business the time and attention they all need. However, some days those waters muddy (and not without the shedding of tears), and other days I feel like I’ve totally got it all balanced. I’m a very driven person, a hard worker & passionate about my brand, but my priority truly is my family. Which is why I have to remind myself daily to take time to step away from designing & all electronic devices and just be present with those who matter most. It’s a successful day when I’ve worked toward achieving my list of goals, rolled around on the floor with my boys, and snuggled up close at the end of the day to David, my husband & partner.
