Music has been a language JD has enjoyed from an early age. Playing the guitar from the age of 2 as well as the drums, and much to his teachers demise throbbing a pencil on his desk to make a beat. He has always had a rhythm within him waiting to be unleashed. Now that he dances as well, I knew he would want to choreograph his dance moves to a beat he created himself. With DJ’s as young as 8 years old these days, this idea wasn’t far fetched. I began to suggest DJ lessons to a cousin of ours for JD, sadly he tours Europe so frequently the lessons never came to fruition. Honestly we don’t have room for another lesson on our already overflowing plate, so I didn’t pursue the idea. This week Legacy Games gave us the opportunity to test out the new Crayola DJ app, and JD could not have been happier.
Crayola Dj is recommended for kids, ages 6-10, although I will tell you 4 year old Gia also gave the app a few spins and loved it all the same. Now a days kids learn via tablets, iPads etc. Legacy Games understands that and through this app they will teach the basics of music production, as well as mixing and scratching music just like a real DJ.
Of course the little ones will have so much fun playing with the almost 100 exclusive tracks (created by professional DJ’s), the learning aspect will get lost on them, (Mom wins). With five musical styles to choose from including Hip Hop, Pop and Dance -Mix the possibilities are endless! Kids can easily mix multiple tracks simultaneously in any way they choose, creating customized, professional -sounding results.
Having mixed his beats to his liking JD was ready to perform on the main stage for an audience, scratching the turntable and creating a spectacular light show with the color-coded tracks. It’s a lot of fun and they can even earn points during the show: The more scratching and on the fly changes children make, the greater the applause of the crowd and the higher the point score.

As we drove from New York to Washington DC, the battles were endless between JD and Gia. Im just happy to say they were DJ Battles! With a two-player mode the kids were able to battle it out to see who the star of the main stage was.
After every performance, DJs can then save their music to play again and again and even share with friends and family. With Crayola® DJ, kids become their own celebrity DJs!The new Crayola® DJ app is available now for $4.99 on Google Play for Android phones and tablets. In June, it will also be sold in the iTunes Store for iOS devices, for the same price.

What an awesome idea for an app! I’m sure this is something both boys and girls alike would get a ton of use out of. My daughter would probably love this and I will definitely be keeping my eye out for their iPhone/iPad app coming out this month. It’s definitely an awesome way for kids to get an introduction to skills they may not easily come across otherwise- thanks for sharing!

I’m pretty sure if I had that as a kid, I’d be that annoying kid making the ear-piercing music and not making it sound good at all. haha!! Sounds like your little one really enjoys it – and well done for him! Such a fun way to play without buying all the huge equipment for the kid, like we had to do “way back when” right?!

My youngest is a little young, she is just under two but my older son would definitely be interested in this app. And I have a confession to make, I am as well! What a neat idea for music lovers 🙂

This looks awesome and something my girls would absolutely love! My daughter plays the piano so she definitely would have a blast making her own music as a DJ. Definitely going to have to check it out and it could be an awesome birthday present for her in August!

My son would love this! He is always dancing, whistling or beat boxing! My husband was in an a cappella group in college, and his best friend that was also in the group is also our kids’ godfather, so our kids are surrounded by music!

What a creative tool for a road-trip! My niece just yesterday was complaining as I drove her somewhere that I never have the music on in my car. This would be great for her. And I love that you can play against other people to make it something my boys can do together.

What a cool app!! I don’t have kids but my niece is always dancing and LOVES music! I can’t picture her being a DJ hehehe but you never know maybe one day she’ll choose that a career. DJ’ing would be a super fun career!! <3
