Summer is the hungriest time of year for kids in need. When classrooms close, kids who rely on nutritious meals at school struggle to get enough to eat. Those three months outside of school and without consistent access to healthy food leaves many children hungry and behind when a new school year begins.
The summer meals program exists to help kids get the food they need in the summer months. Across the country, a network of libraries, community centers, local organizations, and churches host summer meals sites where children and teens can come and enjoy a free healthy lunch, no questions asked.
This coming Tuesday, July 12, No Kid Hungry is raising awareness about these life-changing summer meals programs, and encouraging kids and families to take advantage of meals sites in their communities.
In addition, you can also join other families by hosting a bake sale, or find one near you to participate and help the No Kid Hungry campaign here.
