If you have been around here for a while you know “screen time” is sacred. None of this lazy days watching youtube, and spending all of our hard earned money on apps without us knowing. With much dismay, we pulled the plug and allow for devices to be utilized for an hour a day, and that is only on the weekends. Then a little smarty pants placed Osmo on their Christmas wishlist. My children are well aware the way to get to mom is through education.
What is Osmo?
Osmo is an award-winning game system that will change the way your child interacts with the iPad and iPhone by opening them up to hands-on play.
One of my kids favorite things is music. They literally can do nothing without it. Music is on in our home all day, while doing homework, cleaning, etc. Naturally they were very excited to learn Osmo created Coding Jam, and we were going to review it.
Coding Jam is introducing my children and their friends to coding. By utilizing the magnetized coding blocks they are creating music. The kids play and arrange the magnetized tiles to control the jam session. They decide by the placement of the tiles which silly colorful character plays which instrument and the sound they make. The more they play the more they unlock additional characters.
I am clueless when it comes to coding, and I am thrilled the kids are learning the basics. Yes you know I am a pushover for educational play and let the kids go past their hour device time. If the education part isn’t enough of a mom win for ya….. Get this! The Osmo can be used on the go, without my hotspot being on. Thank you Osmo, for the game that is not running up my data plan. Also the game that keeps the grandparents from asking what is wifi! We know that doesn’t go well.
As the parent we do have to create an Osmo account for the little ones. Having an account enables profiles, allowing family members to save their individual game progress. As a parent, we can follow our child’s activity online. You will also love to know your children can save and share the music they create with you via email. I love getting my kids musical emails. They can also share songs safely with each other through Coding Jam itself.
Also Coding Jam comes with 23 high-quality Osmo Coding blocks. These blocks can be used seamlessly across all Osmo Coding games. So get ready to becoming a coding family!
