From the moment my brain turns on in the morning it is running. Before movement happens, before my eyes open I have already clocked a mile in brain movement. A to do list that could last anyone a week at least flashes before me. Some days not even my planner has enough space to capture all we have to do. Just as the neon light in my brain begins to flash no Headspace available I wonder, what day is it again? Realizing once again we are living a organized chaos lifestyle. This finally prompts movement. Sound familiar? Of course it does because you are a mom!
Layer in class mom, event producer, business owner, and momager to my my littles and you can understand how and why I am being pulled in several directions at once.
Mom Life.
The Mom in me wants to do it all. I want to be at every single event, big or small in their lives. I want to participate as much as possible in their school activities, after school activities, etc. Not as the hovering helicopter mom, but as the involved mindful parent.
As the wanna be mindful parent I am I observe it all. Which leads me to endless amounts of teachable moments, and a lesson I am currently teaching my children is to live in the moment. To put down the devices. To calm their minds and soul and enjoy where they are at the moment. How do we teach this unless we as well are practicing this very same skill?
I had the pleasure of attending a Headspace event in NYC last week hosted by MomTrends and I met the Co-Founder Andy Puddicombe. The man behind the voice and science of Headspace.
Prior to arrival I was literally ready to throw my car in park amidst Times Square and get out and walk. New York City traffic. Swear, I was so riled up I thought for sure there is just no way I can meditate. I needed more of an adult drink to quiet my nerves.
Yet there we were in midtown Manhattan, within a room of influencers, aka social butterflies, meditating!
Get Headspace.
As a born and raised New Yorker, I just couldn’t figure out how to quiet my mind. I have considered meditation numerous times. However the voices in my head could never stay quiet long enough. Besides how does one do that in the city that never sleeps? Would you believe me if I told you there is an app to tackle your headspace? And you can do it in as little as 3 minutes! Stop rolling your eyes, I have tried it, and it works! See above.
After a 3 minute meditation session led by Andy Puddicombe (I mean have you heard him speak?), collectively we knew meditation was possible. Possible for us all, kids, adults and mostly parents alike. Literally 3 minutes with Andy and my mind was calm.
