Summer Brain Drain is always a concern of mine. In years past this has led me to shopping online as well as in bookstores, searching for workbooks, and study guides to ensure our kids stay on track for their upcoming school year. Which has led to boredom and more whining then I am willing to admit.
This Summer I promised the kids I would mix more fun educational activities into our daily routines. One activity we keep returning back to is the Summer exhibitions at the Liberty Science Center. This year like many in past, we have explored, and dare I whisper learned, and indulges in family fun at the Liberty Science Center with Momtrends.
Always a favorite and a great area to start your LSC excursion is in the Jack Horner’s Dino Dig. My kids both ages 11- 7 insantly become a paleontologist upon arrival into the popular outdoor fossil site. As they search for more 60 fossils, many of them replicas of those discovered in Montana by Jack Horner, the famed paleontologist who inspired Jurassic Park. They carefully uncover massive dinosaur bones by digging through 35 tons of sand carefully. Ensuring not to step on any bones, and only brushing away the sand ever so delicately.
Arthur’s World
Gia really enjoyed Arthur’s World because it brought the show to life for her. The Exhibit allows kids to immerse themselves in a life size Arthur’s World. Gia took full advantage of having the room to herself while the other kids enjoyed Grossology and played out a day in the life of Arthur. From cooking breakfast in the Kitchen, looking up recipes, going through the contents of the school desks, to checking out books at Elwood Library. Most of all, seeing herself on the Lakewood School Auditorium, giant television screen. Creating videos with Arthur and his friends was a bonus she was not expecting. Seeing how neatly Arthur and his friends keep all their belongings also inspired her to do the same.
For some reason for a child gross is very popular. I mean who knew farts, zits, and boogies could be so cool? Just when you think you couldn’t handle the gross conversations, LSC creates an entire exhibit dedicated to Grossology! This premium exhibit gives you the opportunity to explore inside all sorts of gross slimy, oozy, crusty stinky questions you have always wanted to ask but didn’t dare. Just be warned it is gross, and the kids will LOVE every minute of it! You will love that they are actually love about their bodies. The exhibit is available June 20 – Sept 23.
The Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium
Growing up the planetarium has always been my most favored class trip. My love for the stars, and planets has definitely been passed on to my children. They naturally were excited to enter the Jennifer Chalsty planetarium and Giant Dome Theater. It is the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. For a full list of shows available at the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium please visit their site and plan accordingly.
